How to Properly Clean a Hoodios Hood and Exhaust System
Hood cleaning is one of the most important maintenance tasks to maintain your kitchen exhaust system and keep it running efficiently. It also helps reduce the risk of fire. Grease and debris build up inside the hood, filters, and vents, reducing airflow and increasing heat in the room.
The cleaning process can vary depending on the cooking style and habits of your staff, but in general, a hood should be cleaned monthly. This ensures that any grease and other substances are removed from the vent, making it more efficient. If you cook greasy foods or use a lot of oil, more frequent cleaning is advisable.
The hood cleaning process starts with shutting off the hood, draining the grease trap and washing the filters. Technicians then turn to the exhaust fan, removing it from the ductwork and using a brush and degreasing chemical to scrub away grease and dirt. Finally, they rinse the motor and fan and wipe down the interior of the hood.

If there are any particularly stubborn grease spots, you can spot treat them with a baking soda solution. Mix a solution of baking soda and water, and apply it to the spot. Leave it to soak for a few minutes, then wash off with a damp cloth. If the spot remains, try again with another solution. For stainless steel hoods, be careful to avoid scratching the surface. It is a good idea to wear rubber gloves.
